COVID-19 RESPONSE

In light of the COVID-19 virus and the decisions by nations to close borders, we are working to get all of our courses into an online format. The courses are highly interactive and skills based, and will provide opportunities for skill development within the online learning environment.

Lorri Yasenik and Jon Graham

Getting Online and Course Involvement

Please note: Online courses are a combination of online videos and other information plus tutorials/meetings via Zoom and so require a specific time commitment. Tutorials are shown in AU (AEST) time and CA time (MT) depending on the season. The timing is an effort to fit groups from Australia and North America.

Students will require the following:

  • A quiet learning space with table/desk for completion of exercises
  • Access to a laptop with camera, microphone/earpieces, or headset
  • Software access: Zoom, PDF Reader, Video player, and Internet Browser
  • Secure Internet access with sufficient bandwidth to stream live video

Forum Topic: Parenting Coordination
Parenting Coordination is a new concept to the Australian Family Law jurisdictions and prolific in North America. The 2020 July Family Court Review Special Issue considered the new AFCC Guidelines for Parenting Coordination. How PC help high conflict parents maintain their agreements and improve their communication is the subject of this forum.

Informal and Online
Research-into-Practice is an informal forum of family law practitioners. We gather online in a similar format to a book-club, with the intention of discussing two or three articles around a theme.
The Research into Practice events have been created to answer a question. How can we practitioners integrate recent research into our practice? It is designed for family law professionals who seek to develop their practice to integrate the thoughts of researchers and authors.
Each month Jon or Lorri will distribute reading materials to each participant 7 days prior to the forum. The group then gathers to explore how (and whether) the authors’ thoughts can be applied in practice. We can discuss cases, theory and practice all generated from the month’s theme.
Lorri Yasenik or Jon Graham will host each forum, which will host as a Zoom meeting for up to 12 participants.
